Hey there Region V!
Sorry for the delay in blog post. At our Hotel here in Detroit there isn't wifi and we had to make a trip to get access.

NATCON is going great so far and we are learning A LOT of great things! Yesterday in our Silver Wings meetings we learned about 'FISH' to help improve our chapters and we will go into more detail about that later. But most importantly...

AUBURN UNIVERSITY IS THE 2012-2013 SILVER WINGS NATIONAL      HEADQUARTERS!!

Everyone here at Region V is so very proud of our very own Region V staff members Kelsey Cardinal for getting SW National President and Kelsey Hendrix for getting National Vice President!! We would also like to congratulate Zach Ezell, Deborah Moats, Alexis Summner, Amalia Otero and Melissa Grimes on their national positions as well!

We are SO proud and can't wait for this upcoming year! We all know you will do amazing jobs!Well we are headed into our next meeting but we will bring more updates soon! Hope everyone is having a great Easter!

IN THE AIR

Hello from 20,000 feet!!

Kelsey and I are currently in route to Detroit MI! We are excited to see what NATCON 2012 has in store for us and we definitely can't wait to share everything we learn with all of y'all! Be sure to check back today and the rest of this long weekend for fun info and pictures!

Speaking of pictures...check out this picture welcoming everyone (or just AAS) to NATCON that a cadet from DET005 took upon his arrival.  Don't worry we will bring up the 'lack of respect' with the NATstaff later. haha just kidding!

NATCON IS TOMORROW!!

Finally the time has come to for NATCON 2012!! As a region staff we are getting ready to head off to Detroit in the early hours of tomorrow morning and we could not be more excited! Wish us luck as we help promote our candidate for 2012-2013 National Staff, Auburn University!! We will keep y'all up to date on how they are doing and what y'all can possibly do to help.

But be sure to check the blog for updates during our 5 day trip on what we are learning at NATCON to make Region V the best it can possibly be as well as fun pictures. Hopefully if you can see what it is like, you will want to go next year! Rumor has it a bid is being put in for NATCON to be in ATL in 2013...it's so close to home your travel fees will be $50 for a tank of gas! EPIC!

For those going to NATCON, we can't wait to meet you! See y'all in Detroit!

Weather for Detroit

Hey y'all! As you pack for NATCON keep the weather up there in Detroit in mind. It's definitely not the south! Happy Packing!

NATCON UPDATE- Airport to Hotel

Once you arrive in Detroit be on the look out for NATCON AAS/SW tables in each terminal!! Go to One of these tables and tell them you are a SW there for NATCON. They will then direct you to buses, which will escort you to the hotel. This has already been paid for in your registration fee. Once at the hotel you should check in at registration and you will be given a packet with schedules, maps, etc. you will then be able to check in to your hotel room. Make sure you check the schedule to see where you will need to go and when you will need to go somewhere. MEALS: Lunch on Saturday will be provided by the AFA as well as dinner on the last night. All other meals are on your own. If I were you I would roam the hotel to see what all food places you may want to eat at. This way you can budget accordingly. There should be a good amount of options. As I get more information I will pass it along via this blog. Get excited, only TWO MORE DAYS!!

Region V Getting Ready for NATCON...

As the days are getting closer members of the Region V Staff are busy prepping their packets for NATCON. 50 packets/books have been made to hand out to delegates of SW as the Region V Staff from Auburn University runs for the National Staff of Silver Wings for 2012-2013!

We would like to thank Region V for being such a great region this year and for continuing to embody Silver Wings as you should! Please check back within the next day or two for information about your arrival in Detroit! We look forward to seeing all of you there!

**Side Note: If you ordered a Region V T-shirt, WE DID NOT FORGET to send them to you! I promise! Most of them will be handed out at NATCON, for those who are attending. The rest will be shipped to your chapter President's within a day or two of our return from Detroit! Thank you for your patience! They turned out super cute! 

Continuity for 2012-2013 Silver Wings

As an officer in the Silver Wings organization you should have gotten some type of Continuity from the person who was previously in your position! This may have been a cd with files, a binder, or a handwritten notebook. As the semester is coming to a close you should be getting ready for officer elections for next year! You should be preparing, re-organizing, and updating your continuity so that it can be passed on in the most beneficial way!

Here are some easy tips to help you make the most of your continuity:

• Start your continuity with the job description, as described in the Silver Wings Manual!
• DE-CLUTTER! Go through and take out things that weren't of use to you this year! It is overwhelming to receive a binder full of things that aren't relevant to you. So if you made little notes that won't make sense to the new person taking your position then get rid of it!
• Type up a list of things the new officer should be doing each month. This is often the easiest way to see what they should be doing and staying up-to-date with things. I know I found this helpful myself, and I have set up my continuity for Region President like this.
• Have copies of any forms, memos, packets, etc. that you may have made so that the new officer can see how you did it and bounce their ideas off of that. It may also be helpful when they are trying to figure out how to fill out forms!
• Have dividers! If you do a binder of continuity break it down into sections! This is often a great way to keep your binder organized and leaves the new officer feeling stress free, knowing they can just flip to whichever section they need.

Each officer position should have some type of continuity! If you didn't get any, then it is up to you to create it for the new officer. If you have any questions or need any help, please contact a member of the Region V Staff. We want to make sure each chapter has a smooth transition into next year and that all officers have an understanding of what they should be doing to make Silver Wings the best it can be!
